Real Life Scary

At almost exactly midnigt Henry woke up not able to breathe and I rushed him to the nearest emergency room where he was stablized within four hours and then transported to Downey Kaiser via ambulance.

We spent most of Halloween in the hospital in the pediatric unit with a lot of sweet nurses and doctors, in a room they personalized at 5 am (before we arrived), when they knew we were on our way.

There aren’t many instances I can think of that feel more helpess as watching my children in pain. Our little Henry refused food, had to be hooked up to an IV, had to be strapped down in the ambulance, was breathing hard to catch his breath, moaned in his sleep, and cried a lot.

Dsc04854

Thankfully by the afternoon he was cheery enough for visitors, feeling a little festive,

Dsc04846

eating more, and eventually released to go home.

Dsc04847

They even gave him a costume, hoping to make him feel better.

Dsc04869

By the evening the doctor’s recommendation included going out in the cool air to assist with breathing, after being indoors for so long, so there was a quick tour around the block for trick or treating.

This morning, after a full night’s rest, we happily changed our page on the calendar and are looking forward to this new month.

Dsc04881

We are spending the day in pajamas.

Dsc04876

We are so happy to be home.

Dsc04878

Our pictures below are from Friday night, when we had an early celebration, and I am so glad I saved those pictures because we had a frightful last few days.

Happy Halloween

from the superheroes

also known as Team Sullivan

Dsc04596

All Together

we sit and keep eachother company with stories

(like Paul making sure Henry’s fever is gone, while he sits enduring one of the many breathing treatments he needs every four hours)

Dsc04810

we sleep in the same bed sharing the humidifier, but not the blankets

Dsc04815

we fit so nicely, complimenting one another, like a fork and spoon

Dsc04821

we cook, clean, and serve the plates side by side

Dsc04824

we sit around a shared table

Dsc04826

we sip soup and pile tofu onto rice

Dsc04832

I see the resemblance where Paul is like his Gi’chan and Olivine wlll one day be the younger sister visiting just like my Aunt Lily- despite their age, they still acti like siblings

Dsc04829

we smile and giggle and enjoy one another

Dsc04834

we make up a family that spans many generations
Dsc04835
we have grateful hearts for the time we are given.

Just Because

is the reason for having a baking party

Dsc04740

and because I love listening to Paul’s observations:

Dsc04721

“looks a little like yogurt”

Dsc04720

“hey, it’s sticky like bubble gum”

Dsc04726

“goodnight” as he tucks them into the oven

Dsc04728

while we wait for them to bake he insists I sit on the couch and order from his restaurant- he made me some delicious tea and then told me that I could have free refills since there were no french fries with ketchup being served today

Dsc04743

and then the admiring “I love cupcakes. I love sprinkles. I love doing this. I love eating them.”
Dsc04794
Here is my real cupcake
Dsc04762
so sweet!

Gift

a homemade wreath for my mom

Dsc04520

it was her birthday and I was feeling crafty.

Dsc04521

I love yarn, felt, glue, and scissors..

Close-Up

Friday Night

The boys have been counting down all week

Dsc04610

in excitement over Grammy coming and going to “Trunk or Treat” at Paul’s school

Dsc04614

not to mention the rides at the Pumpkin Patch

Dsc04630

where the boys rode a train,

Dsc04642

a pony

Dsc04633

and a motorcycle

Dsc04647

side by side.

Hopscotch

Dsc04559

Dsc04557

with chalk

Dsc04585

getting messy

Dsc04565

practicing skipping

Dsc04576

and taking turns.

Dsc04573

Meanwhile our little girl is stuffed up and so she is sleeping more

Dsc04523

a little under the weather.

Recently

I decorated for the season

Dsc04453

adding a little color

Dsc04452

to our house.

Dsc04505

I noticed our little girl has a total of six teeth (you can see the bottom two)

Dsc04445

and our little guy is content with a minimal amount of toys and a vast imagination.

Dsc04449

I am grateful for a simple life.

Touring the Port

Joe booked us tickets knowing

Dsc04384

I love free and the boys love trains.

Dsc04422

We learned a lot about the inner workings of our local port.

Dsc04398

We brought along snacks

Dsc04431

and the boys traded tastes of their lollipops.

Dsc04391

Earlier in the day we stopped in to see an old friend in Newport Beach

Dsc04356

where the weather was misty and overcast- perfect

Dsc04360

and so was this face.
