The other morning I snuck into the chair behind Olivine and listened to her read the pictures of the Gingerbread Girl Story. She was mostly singing to herself, saying “I’m not like my brothers” and smiling as she said “I am too fast to catch.”DSC_8467I heard her imitate some of the animals but I really loved that she could see herself in the story. It’s about a little sassy and smart cookie, and is a story I really love.

DSC_8463Seeing how happy the story made her it all made sense. Of course she likes a story with a character who is so much like herself. Isn’t that what we love about so many stories, the way we connect and relate to the characters.

*Note: she is wearing her brother’s cape.*
